FAQ

What is a planting calendar?

A planting plan is a list of plants to be planted at different times each year. The goal is for plants to grow at their best while minimizing stress. So, for example, spring crops such as lettuce, spinach, or peas should not be sown before the last frost date. Squash, cucumbers, and summer beans are some of the later spring crops. Fall crops include cabbage, potatoes, cauliflower, broccoli and cauliflower.

What vegetables are good to grow together?

It is possible to grow tomatoes and peppers together, as they like the same soil conditions and temperatures. Both are great companions as tomatoes require heat to ripen, while peppers need cooler temperatures to achieve their best flavor. To grow them together, you can start seeds indoors around six weeks before planting. When the weather is warm, transplant the pepper and tomato plants outside.

How much light does a tree need?

It depends upon the type of plant. Some plants require 12 hours of direct sunlight per day. Others prefer 8 to 10 hours of indirect sun. The majority of vegetables require 10 hours of direct sunshine per 24 hour period.

Can I grow fruit tree in a pot?

Yes! Yes! You should make sure that your pot has drainage holes to keep excess moisture from rotting the tree. Make sure the pot is deep enough for the root ball to be held. This will keep the tree from becoming stressed.

What is the first thing to do when starting a garden?

Preparing the soil is the most important step in starting a garden. This includes adding organic matter like composted cow manure, grass clippings leaves, straw, and so on, which will help to provide plant nutrients. Next, place seeds or seedlings in prepared holes. Finally, make sure to water thoroughly.

How often should I water my indoor plants?

Indoor plants need watering every two days. The humidity inside your house can be maintained by watering. Humidity is crucial for healthy plants.

How To

Use organic fertilizers in your garden

Organic fertilizers are made from natural substances such as manure, compost, fish emulsion, seaweed extract, guano, and blood meal. The term organic refers to the use of non-synthetic materials for their production. Synthetic fertilizers are chemicals that are used in industrial processes. They are often used in agriculture since they provide nutrients to plants efficiently and quickly, without the need of complicated preparation. However, synthetic fertilizers pose a risk to the environment and our health. They also require large amounts energy and water to make. Many synthetic fertilizers are also harmful to groundwater and water surface because of runoff. This pollution is detrimental to humans and wildlife alike.

There are several kinds of organic fertilisers:

* Manure is a product of livestock eating nitrogen-rich food (a plant nutrient). It contains bacteria, enzymes, and other substances that break down the waste into simple compounds which can be easily absorbed by plants.

* Compost - a mixture of decaying leaves, grass clippings, vegetable scraps, and animal manure. It is rich in carbon, nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, magnesium and sulfur. It is highly porous so it can retain moisture well and release nutrients slowly.

* Fish Emulsion – A liquid product derived from fish oils. It works similarly to soap in that it dissolves oils and fats. It also contains trace elements like phosphorous, Nitrogen, and other elements.

* Seaweed Extract – A concentrated solution containing minerals extracted from kelp. It is rich in vitamins A, C and iodine as well as iron.

* Guano - excrement from seabirds, bats, reptiles, and amphibians. It is rich in nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium as well as sodium, magnesium, sulfate and chloride.

* Blood Meal - the remains of slaughtered animals. It is high in protein, making it suitable for feeding poultry and other livestock. It also contains phosphorus, potassium, nitrogen, and trace minerals.

Make organic fertilizer by combining equal parts manure, fish emulsion, and compost. Mix thoroughly. If you don’t possess all three ingredients you can substitute one for the other. For example, if you only have access to the fish emulsion, you can mix 1 part of fish emulsion with two parts of compost.

Use a shovel to evenly distribute the fertilizer over the soil. The fertilizer should be about 1/4 cup per square foot. You will need more fertilizer to see signs and growth every two weeks.
