FAQ

What month is best for starting a vegetable or fruit garden?

Planting vegetables in April and June is the best time. This is when the soil temperature is highest and plants grow most quickly. If you live in colder climates, you might wait until July or Aug.

What length of time can I keep an indoor flower alive?

Indoor plants can survive up to ten years. To ensure new growth, it's important that you repot indoor plants every few years. Repotting is simple. Remove the old soil and place fresh compost.

Can I grow fruit trees inside pots?

Yes! Yes! To prevent tree rot, make sure the pot has drainage holes. The pot should be deep enough to hold the rootball. This will stop the tree becoming stressed.

Is there enough space in my backyard to grow a vegetable garden.

If you don't already have a vegetable garden, you might wonder whether you'll have enough room for one. The answer is yes. A vegetable garden doesn't take up much space at all. It just takes some planning. For instance, raised beds could be constructed only 6 inches high. Or, you could use containers instead of raised beds. Either way, you'll still get plenty of produce.

What vegetables are good to grow together and what are the best?

Growing tomatoes and peppers together is excellent because they both like similar temperatures and soil conditions. They complement each other well since tomatoes need heat to ripen while peppers require cooler temperatures for optimal flavor. Start seeds indoors approximately six weeks prior to planting. Once the weather gets warmer, transplant your pepper and tomato plants outdoors.

How To

Basil Growing Tips

Basil is one of the most versatile herbs you can use in your kitchen. Basil is great for flavoring foods, including soups, sauces and pastas. Here are some ways to grow basil indoors.

  1. It is important to choose the right location. Basil is an annual plant and will only live one season if it's not in the right place. Basil likes full sunlight but can be tolerant of partial shade. If you want to grow it outside choose an area that is well-ventilated.
  2. Plant the seeds. Basil seeds should not be planted more than two weeks prior to the last frost date. Place the seeds 1/2 inch deep into small pots containing potting mix. Place the pots in clear plastic wrap. Keep them out of direct sunlight. Germination takes approximately ten days. Once the pots are germinated, you can move them to a place where temperatures remain around 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
  3. Once the seeds are big enough, it's time to transplant them. The plastic wrap should be removed and the seedlings transplanted into larger containers. Add potting mix to each container. Add more potting mixes as necessary. Place the containers in direct sunlight or in a sunny window. Mist the plants daily to prevent wilting.
  4. Apply a thick layer mulch to the top of your plants after the danger of frost has passed. This will prevent them from frost damage and help to reduce water loss.
  5. Regularly water the plants. Basil requires regular watering in order to thrive. A rain gauge can be used to measure how much water plants need. Also, use a timer to turn off the irrigation system during dry spells automatically.
  6. You should pick your basil at its peak. Pick leaves frequently to encourage bushier growth.
  7. Use paper towels or screens to dry the leaves. Dry the leaves in glass jars and bags in the fridge.
